So, what if I refused to agree with them? What if I refused to define myself and my body that way? What if I chose to love my body? Then what? I realized that the only reason I didn’t like my body was because I had been told by society that I wasn’t supposed too. So, one of the first positive things I ever said to myself was, my body is strong. It had birthed twins after all which is no small feat. But in shifting my mindset, I chose to see my body as something that was physically strong. Before, I viewed my body as something that continually let me down, something that couldn’t live up to this standard I had in my head. I also decided to shift my perspective on how I viewed my body’s capabilities. Even if it was just a single strand of hair on my head, I was going to find something to like about my appearance and I was going to focus on that.

Firstly, I told myself that it didn’t matter what anyone else thought, I was over hating myself. The very first step was refusing to hate myself any longer. It’s also not something that happens all at once, however, there are steps you can take to make some immediate changes to your mindset. It’s something you need to work on daily. And something just clicked at that moment, and I knew major changes needed to be made. I literally remember looking in the mirror and being like, “I’m tired of this”. For many years, I was stuck in a very dark place. And doing all these things with little to no results was soul-crushing. I literally tried every diet you could imagine.

Prior to my weight loss, I had spent two decades dieting and trying anything to lose weight. Changing how I viewed my problems and situations was what made my final weight loss journey truly stick. I truly believe that it was changing my mindset and how I viewed my life that helped me lose over 100 pounds. But there’s no reason to try out trends you don’t genuinely love and no reason to dress in any way that doesn’t make you feel good. Trends are fun, and if you like them, go for it. Wearing what you love and what makes you look and feel fantastic is a great way to promote a healthy body image. If you eat well, exercise and treat yourself kindly, you’ll end up in the exact shape you’re supposed to be in.Įveryone’s body shape is different and clothes look completely different on different people. Everyone is programmed differently some people are naturally smaller and others larger, regardless of health status. Rather than following fads, aim for a general and constant feeling of wellbeing, and you’re on the right track.ĭespite the work of the body positivity and body neutrality movements, many people associate low body fat with good health and higher body fat with poor health. It’s as simple as this: when you are treating your body well, you tend to feel good, and when you are not, you don’t feel your best. No one knows your body better than you do and once you start really trusting this and listening to it, your body will tell you how it’s doing. A lot of followers doesn’t make someone an authority – trust those who have dedicated time to learning about the body, health and wellness for advice. A person who claims to be an expert on social media with few credentials to back this up should be approached with caution.
